Backup & Disaster Recovery
for Northern Beaches Businesses

Automated daily backups, immutable storage, and a tested recovery plan. So a ransomware attack, a deleted folder, or a compromised account doesn’t take down the business. Your data lives in Australian data centres, backed up while you sleep, monitored by a local team.

Why your business needs backup

It’s not what you think.

Most business owners assume their data is automatically backed up somewhere. Understandable, but wrong. Microsoft doesn’t back up your Microsoft 365 data by default. Neither does Google. Your cloud provider stores your data, sure, but they’re not protecting you from accidental deletion, ransomware, or the kinds of mistakes that happen every day in busy offices.

Backup and disaster recovery protecting Northern Beaches business data from loss and ransomware

Cloud storage ≠ cloud backup

Microsoft is responsible for the availability of their platform, not for protecting your tenant against you. Deleted, encrypted, or maliciously altered data is your problem to recover.

People make mistakes

Folders get dragged into the wrong place. Files are overwritten. Inboxes get cleared by the wrong rule. We’ve seen businesses lose years of records this way, by then, it’s too late.

Ransomware doesn’t ask twice

One click on a bad link and an attacker can encrypt every accessible file, including the backups that aren’t properly isolated. Recovery without an immutable copy means paying the ransom or starting over.

Set up once. Sleep easy.

At Marvel IT we set up automated backup systems that work while you sleep. No effort on your part. We monitor, test, and alert if anything’s wrong. So you only hear about backups when you need one.

What we backup (and why it matters)

Cloud, ransomware-proof, planned.

Backup is two halves of one job: copying the data safely, and being able to put it back when you need it. We cover both, and we cover them everywhere your data actually lives.

Microsoft 365 cloud-to-cloud backup

Your emails, contacts, calendars, OneDrive files, and SharePoint documents, all backed up daily to Australian data centres. If something goes wrong, we restore exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.

How M365 backup works

Immutable, ransomware-proof storage

Every backup is written to immutable storage that can’t be encrypted, modified, or deleted, not even by an attacker with admin credentials. The copy you’ll need on the worst day of your business is the copy that’s still there.

How immutable backup works

Disaster recovery planning

Backup is only half the story. We work with you to create a DR plan that answers the critical question: “what happens after we restore?” Documented systems, set RTO and RPO targets, tested regularly, no surprises on the worst day.

The stack behind every Marvel IT backup

Five layers, one recoverable business.

We don’t sell you generic backup software and hope for the best. We use proper tools that we know, manage and test every day. So when you need to restore, the answer is always “yes” and never “we’ll see”.

Cloud-to-cloud Microsoft 365 backup

Daily verified backups of mailboxes, contacts, calendars, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams to Australian data centres. Granular restore, one email, one file, one folder.

Granular, point-in-time recovery

Roll back to any specific day or version, one email, one document, one folder, one SharePoint site. Recovery is precise, not all-or-nothing, and usually finished in minutes.

Immutable, ransomware-proof storage

Backups are written to immutable storage that attackers can’t encrypt or delete, even with admin credentials. The backup you need is the backup that’s still there.

Geographically distributed AU data centres

Your backups are stored in geographically distributed Australian data centres with failover built in. So a single facility going down does not become a recovery problem.

Tested restore drills & documented runbooks

Untested backups are wishful thinking. We schedule restore drills, document recovery steps, and give you a plain-English runbook. So the recovery process is rehearsed long before there’s an emergency.

Threat board · what we backup against

The biggest causes of data loss right now.

Ransomware gets the headlines, but it’s only one way data disappears. Northern Beaches businesses lose data to all four of these every week, and every one of them is solvable if the backup is in place before it happens.

Ransomware Critical

Malicious software encrypts your files and demands payment for the key. Without an isolated, immutable backup the choice is pay the ransom or lose everything. Immutable storage and tested restores remove that choice entirely.

Accidental deletion Most common

Someone drags a folder into the wrong place, a sync conflict overwrites the good copy, a leaving staff member’s mailbox gets purged on the wrong day. The most common cause of data loss we see, and the easiest to fix when backup is in place.

Microsoft 365 retention gaps Misunderstood

Microsoft 365 retention windows are short, finite, and shared-responsibility . Microsoft keeps the platform alive, you keep the data recoverable. Cloud-to-cloud backup closes the gap most businesses don’t know they have.

Cloud account compromise Contained blast radius

An attacker with stolen admin credentials can wipe eighteen months of mail with one PowerShell script. An immutable backup stored outside your M365 tenant is the only copy that survives the cleanup.

A plan for the worst day

Why disaster recovery planning matters for Northern Beaches businesses

Disaster recovery solutions differ from client to client, but one thing is for sure, if you are a business that relies on technology to literally “stay alive” then you need to take it seriously. The companies who don’t are the ones we end up watching suffer in a multitude of ways that can literally cost them their entire business.

Disasters can come in different shapes and forms too. Here is a very basic example. Say a staff member has gone rogue and starts deleting business critical data, and has been doing so for weeks.

A company with a DR plan initiates the disaster recovery plan, and has an exact workbook on how to treat this sort of incident, and works with us to successfully recover the deleted data quickly and easily. No harm done.

A company without a DR plan freaks out, has no idea what to do, calls us and we advise them that they haven’t got a solution to this issue but we will “do our best” with what they have. The result could be a big old zero, who knows.

We could give you a tonne of real world examples like this but you get the idea. Having a plan and an actual solution planned out for various scenarios that you think are important to be able to recover from is the exact reason why Disaster Recovery Planning is so important for Northern Beaches businesses.

At the end of the day all of us IT providers are here to help our clients as best as we can but if the client themselves hasn’t planned to help themselves in the time of need, it can be almost impossible for us to help when the time comes. Let’s have a chat and fix that for your business.

Hope is not a backup strategy.

If your last successful restore test was “never”, you don’t have a backup, you have a story you’ve been telling yourself. We can audit your current setup, identify the gaps, and design a backup and recovery plan that fits your business. No lock-in, fixed-price Care Packs, and a clear quote upfront.

Our process

From “we hope so” to “we know so”.

A backup project should never end at “the agent is installed”. Ours runs all the way to a tested, documented, monitored recovery plan, the only definition of backup that actually counts.

Step 01

Assessment

We audit your current data, systems, and recovery needs, and tell you where the gaps are in plain English.

Step 02

Design

We design a backup and recovery plan that fits your business. What gets backed up, how often, how fast it has to come back.

Step 03

Implementation

We set up automated daily backups with zero downtime. No “weekend cutover” theatrics, just a quiet, careful rollout.

Step 04

Testing

We test recovery regularly. Single-file restores, M365 mailbox recoveries, SharePoint site rollbacks, to prove it works before you need it.

Step 05

Documentation

You get a clear disaster recovery plan and runbook . RTO, RPO, contacts, sequence, so anyone in your business can follow it.

Step 06

Ongoing monitoring

We watch your backup health every day and alert you if anything’s wrong, handling failed jobs before they become failed restores.

Our backup & DR solutions include

Five pieces of one recovery story.

Each piece protects a different failure mode. Together they form a backup and recovery posture that actually holds up under pressure. Click any item to see what it does and why it matters.

Microsoft 365 cloud-to-cloud backup

Daily verified backups of every mailbox, contact, calendar, OneDrive, SharePoint library and Teams chat to Australian data centres, independent of Microsoft’s own retention. Granular restore means we recover one email, one file, or one whole tenant, fast and precise.

Disaster recovery planning

We document your systems, set Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), and write a plain-English runbook anyone in the business can follow. We test the plan on a schedule. So the first time it’s used in anger isn’t the first time it’s used.

Backup & DR · Northern Beaches

Common questions, answered.

What Northern Beaches businesses ask us most about backup and disaster recovery. If we’ve not covered yours, give us a shout and we’ll explain it without the jargon.

Doesn’t Microsoft back up my Microsoft 365 data?

No. Microsoft stores your data and keeps it available, but they don’t back it up. They’re responsible for the availability and integrity of their systems, not for protecting you against accidental deletion, ransomware, or malicious insiders. You need your own backup.

How often should we back up?

We recommend daily backups for most businesses. For very large datasets or businesses with high transaction volumes, more frequent backups (or transaction-log replication) make sense. We’ll recommend a schedule based on your data and how much you can afford to lose between backups.

Can we recover just one email or file?

Yes. That’s one of the biggest advantages of proper backup. Instead of restoring an entire mailbox or file share, we can recover exactly what you need: one email, one document, one folder. It’s fast and precise, usually within minutes for cloud data.

What happens if your data centre goes down?

We use geographically distributed Australian data centres with failover built in. Your backup isn’t stored in one place, and we maintain redundant systems so that a single failure doesn’t impact recovery. If a primary site is unavailable, restores run from the secondary copy automatically.

How do we know the backup actually works?

We test recovery regularly and provide you with reports showing backup success rates and recovery times. You’re never guessing whether your backup will work when you need it, and we run sample restore drills as part of every Care Pack engagement, so the chain has been proven before there’s any pressure on it.

How much does backup & DR cost?

We offer backup as part of our fixed-price Care Packs with no lock-in contracts. Costs depend on how much data you’re backing up and how fast you need to recover it. We’ll give you a clear quote upfront, no surprises, no per-incident fees.
